Photographing Bald Eagles

A few weeks ago l got a new camera lens!! I used to have a 18-55 mm lens but now I have a 55-250mm lens! I am super excited to have a new lens because now I can take close up pictures of birds. With the other lens, the birds were always too far away. I mainly take pictures of birds at our feeder. This weekend I brought my camera to the cabin because I wanted to take pictures of birds.

This weekend we went to the cabin up Rock Creek. The snow was about 12-16”! On Sunday, Lucy and l were playing with our new castle LEGO set. All of a sudden Papa said “Eagles!”. There were 3 Bald Eagles (BAEA) chasing each other, Papa said that one of them had a fish in its talons! We watched them for a while before Mama went out to take pictures before they flew away. Mama went down to the river and took a few amazing pictures of it on the ice. After Mom took pictures, I wanted to try to!

Later that day while we were around an hour away from leaving I went down to the river to see if l could take a picture of an eagle before we left. I sat there for a while waiting for an eagle to fly up/downstream toward me. I waited for about a minute until I saw some movement up stream. The eagle had perched on a large pine tree upstream of the bridge. It stayed there for a few minutes (I had 3 pictures by now) before it took off. I also got some pretty good photos of it flying. Before we went, Lucy, Mom, and I went down to the river one last time.

Going down to the river an eagle flies downstream and lands on the ice on the opposite bank. We watch it for a while, all of a sudden the eagle jumps into the water! It comes out a second later with a fish! I have never seen that behavior before. Have you ever noticed that behavior? If so, please leave it in your comments.
