On Friday, December 3rd at 5 PM, Lucy and I are having an art show at the ZACC in the youth gallery and it will be up all December! I am so excited!! There will be buyable pieces of art hanging on the wall. The money will go to the Navopatia Field Station in Mexico, the ZACC, and the Montana Osprey Project. The youth art gallery is by the play-ground and the bathrooms, The art will be in gold frames of all different shapes and sizes. Some art will be black and white, but most will be colored in. I did the art show because I love to draw and I wanted to practice my nature journaling techniques.
These are our artist statements:
My name is Dottie Moon Anglian Herring. I am 8 years old and live in Missoula, MT. I love birds!! I also love to read, play outside, play legos, learn, fish, hunt, and swim. My favorite color is golden. My favorite animal is an eagle. I’m scared of snakes. I used to love whales but at the start of the pandemic I started birding because you can’t see whales in Montana. I have a blog, it’s www.missoulabirdnerds.com. I am Yup’ik and an enrolled tribal member of the Orutsararmiut Native Council.
I draw birds, lots and lots of birds! For my art, I use micron pens, colored pencils, normal + blue erase pencils, watercolor + grid paper, paints, and paintbrushes. I thought having an art show would be a great opportunity to learn new skills and techniques. I think drawing has made me a better birder, I think that because I have learned new field marks and different species of birds.

I am Lucy Jones Niamin Herring. I live in Missoula, Montana. I am five. I am an artist and a chatterbox. I love to read books, play tag and find worms. My favorite color is pink. My favorite animals are made up ones. I used to love cheetahs when I was a baby. I love birds because they are kind of annoying and tweet toooo much. I’m scared of bears. I am Yup’ik and an enrolled tribal member of the Orutsararmiut Native Council
I draw birds. I learned to draw birds from my sister. I use watercolor pencils, paper and pens. I think of all the birds I see, then I choose my favorite. I am showing my art because I love doing art. Sometimes people aren’t the same, so I do things differently.
Terrific drawings, ladies!! I have loved birds all my life, and I used to draw them when I was young. I am now almost 70 (Wow, that’s old!) and I still feed the birds here around my home in California. With our weather, we are luckier than most areas, in that we see migrating birds. I saw an Osprey over this past weekend. I pretended it was Iris. I was so happy to see him (no necklace). Thank you for sharing your drawings with us all. Keep up the good work.

Thank you!! Most of our birds have migrated already. I saw Iris’s nest today while looking for a pygmy owl. I’m glad you like my blog!

Congratulations on your art show! I am so proud of you girls. Your Granny sent me photos of your art pieces, and I would like to buy one of Dorothy’s and one of Lucy’s to hang in my house. I will log in at 5:00. (The early bird gets the worm)!
