The Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) where birders and bird lovers across the world will be making lists of birds they saw on the hike is in less than two weeks! I am super excited since last year when I received an Audubon calendar and noticed the GBBC takes place in the month of February. To help me remember those days, I took a piece of paper and wrote it down with some birds I had seen that week. For all the bird events I make little reminders.

On February 12-15 the GBBC is when you go for a hike (maybe your favorite) and make a list of all the birds you saw on that one hike. You can watch for 15 minutes or more on at least one of the 4 days. Last year 27,270,156 birds were seen in the GBBC. This year is the 24th year of the GBBC! You submit your list on the Ebird app.

Birds I want to see at the GBBC.

Maybe if you are a beginner you can use the Merlin Bird ID app (where you put in your location, the date you saw it, it’s size, the color and then it will create a list of possible birds) to identify the birds you see or have fun identifying them yourself! You might need to use Ebird to make a list of the birds you saw and submit your list.

For the GBBC I want to go to Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge and the cabin.

I am new to the Bird world and I found out about the Backyard Bird Count on February 17. 2 days AFTER it happened. But its okay, because I will be participating next year. I am happy for you , that you get to see God’s birds and how beautiful HE made them.
    God Bless you Honey.
I look forward to more of your drawings.
